Swinging torch

This effect was achieved by hanging a torch from the end of a piece of string in a dark room and setting it swinging. Exposure time was 10 seconds. Click the photos for larger views.

Wadi Rum, Jordan

One Million Years B.C.

The Green Lagoon, El Golfo, Lanzarote. Fed from underground by sea water, the colour is caused by algae. Raquel Welch appeared here in the 1966 film One Million Years B.C. which was shot in the Canary Islands because of the extensive volcanic landscape. More from the Canaries here.

Contamination Zone

In a similar vein to Derelict London, Contamination Zone is a collection of atmospheric and sometimes unsettling photographs by Elle Dunn, capturing “urban & rural decay across the UK”. Also featuring some European locations.

Porridge

Used as the entrance to Slade Prison in the title sequence of the 1970s sitcom Porridge with Ronnie Barker. Formerly the gatehouse to St Albans Prison, the building is now used as offices. The interior communal areas of the prison were constructed inside a huge metal tank at Elstree Studios, previously used for underwater filming.
