Hidden stars
January 30th, 2008
It’s amazing how many more stars the camera picks up then the human eye. Here’s a shot straight from camera, which is more or less how it looked to the eye.

Here’s the same shot (cropped a little) processed to bring out the fainter stars. Of course it helps if you’re in an area with low light pollution from street lights etc. I took this in Snowdonia.
SmugMug plug
January 28th, 2008
Just a plug for the image hosting service I use for my main gallery at DigitalNature. It’s not free, but SmugMug offer an amazing amount of customisation and fine tuning. My old gallery was all hand coded and consequently adding new photos or galleries wasn’t a quick exercise. Using the CSS and HTML customisation of the Pro account (also available with Power User accounts) I was able to make my SmugMug hosted site look almost identical to my original site. With the Pro account you can also use your own domain name and sell your images, setting your own prices. If you’re not confident with CSS/HTML, there’s an online forum with some very helpful and knowledgeable people. Alternatively a choice of themes are available. There’s a free 14 day trial, and if you click the logo above you can save $5 on your subscription.

Guildford Cathedral
December 29th, 2007
Some shots of the cathedral and nearby University of Surrey.

Looking like a sort of amphitheatre enclosed by a wall, this is a view looking vertically up the side of the cathedral from within an arched recess.

Sculpture (University of Surrey).

Stained glass reflection on wall
(colours enhanced).

Security Camera (University of Surrey).

Alan Turing (University of Surrey).

“Seven joined in one”, motto of the Household Division
(referring to the seven regiments).

Range cat mod’s
December 26th, 2007
This has to be the most affectionate cat I’ve met. A regular visitor to the golf driving range, it goes from one mat to the next, rolling on its back waiting for a tummy rub. It makes it rather tricky to hit the golf balls without whacking the cat! Having my pocket camera with me, I resigned to just photographing it for a while. The shots were pretty mediocre so I played around with them in Paint Shop Pro. All except the first one are clickable.
